COVID-19 Urban Thinkers Campus #2: Accelerating Affordable and Sustainable Housing in Informal Settlements

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the already critical situation in informal settlements, where cities are facing multiple obstacles to providing basic services and good living conditions to its dwellers. The need for adequate housing was already present, but COVID-19 has demonstrated that particularly in crisis situations it is again the most vulnerable population who suffers the most.

To achieve resilient, affordable and sustainable cities we need to focus on housing as a supporting pillar of population´s well-being. Innovative approaches in housing programmes are urgently needed to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

How can research support sustainable development? How to develop scalable approaches that accelerate the provision of adequate, affordable and sustainable housing and create long-term positive impact?
